1、Betty's First Interview
While you got me here, I thought I'd tell you a little about myself. Magazines are my passion, ever since I was a kid. I can't imagine a more amazing place to start my career than Meade Publications. I know most of your magazines inside out. I try to devour as much as I can. I've learned so much through them. Stuff so beyond my world. Who the up-and-comers are on the London art scene. or the political machenations in Darfur. or which Bali resort is considered the most romantic. I have tons of ideas. I'm always jotting stuff down on the subway. I'm getting ahead of myself. What I really want is a chance in any position or publication. I can type 100 words a minute.
2、Daniel's First Show Up
Celebrity-studded funeral services were held today for Fay sommers, the much loved and hated editor in chief of fashion bible Mode magazine. It was the bitch slap heard round the world when longtime creative director Wilhelmina Slator was passed over for the top spot in favor of Daniel Meade, the nominally-experienced son of Meade publications owner Bradford Meade. Can the notorious man-whore can translate his talent at bedding women into dressing them.
3、Daniel's first meeting
I gotta confess, I'm not gonna remember everyone's names. (I wish I wasn't coming in as the new guy under such terrible circumstances.) I realize I have some awful big shoes to fill. I can't tell you how excited I am to be working with such an amazingly talented and delicated staff. I'd like to take the moment to talk a little about my ideas. As I was saying, I really wanna...
4、Wilhelmina Slator: Fabia comestics supllement
Fabia comestics, The biggest ad buy of the year and the only paid layout editorial ever works on.
You don't understand. Given the new circumstances, Fabia needs to sign off on the spread before we go to print. Obviously, We're all here to help you succeed and we've got plenty of ideas. I think we need to go back to work to make sure that this, your very first issue with your name on the masthead, sparkles. Everyone, Let's not delly-dally. Our editor needs us.
5、Longtime creative editor Wilhelmina Slator
Twenty years, Marc. No one has done more, worked harder. I have bled for the magazine, helped make it into the icon it is today, and that nasty, nepotistic son of a bitch gives my job to his son. Who's a self-absorbed Lothario放荡者 punk废物 who knows nothing about fashion. Tell me the truth, Is it because I'm getting old?
6、Marc's first impression with Betty
He's well on his way to falling flat on his face. I mean, can you believe that assistant. This is Mode, not Dog Fancy.
7、Amanda's first impression with Betty
You the 'before'? 'Before and After.' The photo shoot? Are you delivering something? Everyone's in the conference room, and Daniel's about to start his first meetting. FYI, Betty, assistants are usually here before their boss. Where do you come from? What job did you have? That's funny, I was told I didn't have enough experience for the position. It's over there.
8、Amanda talks about Phillippe Michel
He's amazing. He's shot, like, everything. There'd been some drama. Daniel hooked up with Phillippe's ex-girlfriend years ago, but they're fine now. We went out for, like, a week. They don't call him 'The Tripod' because he's a photographer, if you catch my drift.
9、Betty says hello to Phillippe
I'm really big fan of yours. That travel layout you did with the tiki torches? That was really gorgeous. It kind of reminded me of this Hiroaki spread I'd seen a couple of years ago.
10、Phillippe talks about Betty
Listen to me, You are the editor in chief of Mode magazine. This business is all about image. Is that what you want representing you? Paperazzis taking your picture and she's standing behind? -What if she quits? -You beat her down to a pulp.
11、Christina introduces herself
I'm Christina, I work in the closet, where all the clothes are kept. I act as an in-house seamstress, sort of keep track of things. Sometimes they let me keep some of the crappy stuff from last season, but I have to improvise because everything is a size zero. Voila. That's nice. Anyway, I like it, mostly 'cause I'm by myself, away from the 'Chic-ees'. The bitches that work at Mode.
12、Daniel's problem with his lunch
There's a problem with my lunch. I love coleslaw, I hate cabbage. I just like the tart, tangy dressing. Can you do something about it? Before it gets to room temperature.
13、Cristina talks about fashion
Feel the fabric on that thing. It's kind of rough. That's because it's burlap. Basically, we're talking $7000 for a designer potato sack. I can't believe people buy this stuff. I can't believe they wear it. Usually just once before they'll chuck it to make room for next season. But that's fashion. And I've got to say, I love it. You're not too much into it, are you?
14、Betty talks about Daniel
Nothing I do is good enough. He treats me like dirt. I mean, just now, I was trying to show him this one idea that I had. It would've taken him 30 seconds, but he bit my head off.
That explains a lot. I should be grateful that I got my break. It's not so easy for everyone. This is just how it was supposed to happen for me. Well, I should be going.
15、Hilda's realism
I'm sorry it didn't work out. It happens. Mom said she wasn't surprised. She said all the stuff you wanna do, owning a magazine, doesn't happen for people like us unless you're J. Lo or something. She said she wishes you'd be more realistic, but I think she's full of crap.
16、Betty VS Gio VS Walter
I just wanna say that this is really unfair. I live two doors down. I can see you. - You used him for his discount?
I told him from the start I wasn't looking for anything serious. He said he could still get me 30 percent off a flat screen. -He offered.
18、Bradford Meade VS Daniel
Fabia's not just talking about canceling the Mode supplement, she's considering pulling advertising from every single one of my magazines. Is it true you worked on this on your own? Didn't consult Wilhelmina or anyone else? -The only person who sabotaged you was yourself. -I'm sorry I hope you'll be something you're not. -We just closed book. It's too late.
I can explain. I had a very strong feeling she was trying to sabotage me. -I'm sorry I let you down. -Look, I can fix this. I'll present her with a new idea.
19、Daniel's apologize
You didn't deserve what I put you through. I listened to all wrong people about a lot of things, and I have no one to blame but myself. -Try me. Betty, come on, we've all got problems. -Look, I lost a brother a while back. He was the good one in our family, and I've never quite measured up, but I'm trying. Betty, I could never compare my problems to yours, but they're mine. Nothing's ever easy. I saw the layout you made for Fabia. I thought it was very smart and beautiful. I wanna take your ideas to Fabia, giving you credit, of course. I really want you to come back. By my assistant. I promise you, things will be different. You have tonight. Otherwise, I'll probably be out of a job as well.
I appreciate that. But you're going to leave here, and you're going to take your Town car back to your SoHo loft and I'm still gonna be here, out of work, and dealing with problems that you'll never understand. -Oh, and what are yours, Daniel? What restaurant you're gonna eat at? Which model you're gonna sleep with? Try spending the day on the phone with some crappy HMO(Health Maintenance Organization), getting them to cover your dad's prescriptions, or trying lining up a job, any job, because you have to help pay the rent next month.
20、Betty&Daniel's presentation
In order to show the softer side of Fabia Cosmetics, we're gonna use the concept of mothers and daughters. Focusing on the small, special moments that are usually taken for granted. The theme being, it's not the big events, but the little moments, that matter.
I do have the statistics here. Though one might assume that your demographic is very young, in fact, there's been trememdous brand loyalty since you've launched. which means that the people who were teenagers when they began using your cosmetics, well, now, like you, they are beginning to settle down and have children. Fifty-eight percent, to be exact.
20、Daneil's schedule
I've confirmed your lunch for tomorrow, and your 3:15 with the graphics department is set. The feature editor would like...
Bridge's Theory
Bridge: "I have this theory: Crime is contagious. It's like it can just get in the air. People can catch it for each other. And when they catch it, they change. And then they change other people. The truth is we're all capable of anything. We don't want to believe it's true, but it is."
1、Daniel wears Maggini shoes
The Magginis are the problem. They're the most comfortable shoes I own. Unfortunately there's a whole sweatshop thing with them -- Cambodian kids, forced labor, I don't know. Point is, it's best if people don't know I wear their shoes. Listen, The press, people in the business, they have a way of taking the truth, twisting it around. We always got to protect ourselves, twist it around ourselves if we need to.
2、Report about Daniel
Has Wilhelmina Slator, 'Mode' creative director, got over her humiliation of being passed over for the boss' son? That's the question on everyone's lips after the recent regime change when Daniel Meade, slutty scion纨绔子弟 of parent company, Mead Publications, was named new editor in chief. Daniel took over after the hot,hot death of former editor Fey Sommers in a fiery car crash. The world is still in mourning after the fur-loving fashion martyr lost control of her vehicle after being chased by angry animal rights activists.
3、Bradford Meade talks with his son
I don't need to reminde you the importance of succeeding here. 'Mode' is a stepping stone for you, but a significant one. You do well, eventually you'll end up sitting where I am, running the company. Have you been getting the book? Editor in chief for dummies白痴主编。
4、The Book
The mock-up of the entire magazine. Each department submits there section throughout the day. Photo, style, advertising -- all of ''Mode's'' secret. The person in charge of the book takes it home overnight and gives their notes. The person controls the Book controls the magazine.
5、Look what they do to the pictures of super star
We're going to smooth out the chin fat, (Tighten the punem) , Lean out the arm flab(松弛), (Downsize these hips(腰围) about 15%). And this area right over here, lift them up a notch.(Sag下垂 begone),
6、Everyone wants to persuad Natalie Whitman
Natalie, you're absolutely right. You look normal, wonderfully so. And if this were any other magazine, that would be fine. But this is Mode, and we're not about normal, we're about aspirational. So why not, with the help of modern technology, give yourself the opportunity to look as stunning as you possibly could?
Natalie, as editor in chief, I say, why not take something that's hot, and make it super hot?
It's a tres(=three) good career move, and remember, we're still trying to land you '2 million dollar babey'.
I guess you guys are the experts. I'll let you do your magic.
7、Wars between Daniel and Wilhelmina part I
Wilhelmina, do you have a minute? -For you, I have two.
I'm editor in chief. I should be receiving the book at the end of each day. -Well, with all your responsibity, do you really think you have the time? Take my advice, focus on the big picture, don't be afraid to delegate委托. That's what I'm here for.
Wilhelmina, certain things fall under my purview范围. The Book is one of them. So from now on, I'm going to receiving the book every night. -As you wish.
8、Perfection sells fashion
I never even realized how much they do to these people. The chin, the butt, the hips, the teeth-
You don't ever know. They ever got their hands on me, I'd look like a pre-crach Whitney.
That's the business we're working in. Perfection sells fashion. It's all fake and unattainable, but nobody seems to get it. Would you buy a magazine if I was on the cover? -yeah, 'National Geographic.'
9、Betty's spirit
That's it. Who put the bunny in the toilet? Well, whoever's doing this, if you think you can break me that easily, you're wrong. You can take my bunny, but you can't take my spirit.
And though my bunny and I are a little worse for wear. we're here, and we're staying. and it's gonna take a hell of a lot more to get rid of either one of us.
10、What do Daniel want to do
I could say I was mugged. I could get my golf club. You could hit me across the face. Break my nose.
-There are a lot of things I'm willing to do for this job, That's not one of them. Plus, how are you gonna explain being in queens, anyway?
- My father could fire me over this. Maybe I should just have them take me to J.F.K., get a one-way ticket to Paris, no, Rio. It's cheaper, women are much hotter. I could get a little place in Ipanema. -And then what? - I don't know, drink, party? As long as I escape the pressure of ting to be something I am clearly not.
- If I can suggest, instead of trying to escape this or spin it, why don't you just tell the truth? Or you can just blame me. I don't mind being your fall girl, guy, person, whatever. If you could just twist the truth one last time and give me a good recommendation, I'd really appreciate it.
11、Fabulous agent
This is an atrocity. I don't even know how to spin this. This is bad, this is Mel Gibson bad. You know, 'sorry' is not gonna cut it. If those pictures appear on the internet, on television, our P.R. firm will never allow any of our clients anywhere near your magazine.
12、seppuku
You know how in those samurai movies they'd rather kill themselves than be captured or defeated?
- Ritual suicide. It's called seppuku.
- Like the beer? Anyway, this whole situation with you taking the book to Queens reminded me of that. And I figured, rather than live with the shame of screwup and probably end up getting fired anyway, wouldn't you rather just quit? seppuku, Betty
You know what? You really do belong here than what I do.And I trully hope that you get everything you deserve.
13、Betty never twists the truth
Look, the whole business with the book and the photoes, it's my fault, not daniel's and not mode's. I was taking care of the book whent it was stolen. It's just a lowly assistant screwup, and I don't want it to reflect badly on anyone else, and I'm really sorry for pain or embarrassment or hurt that it might cause you. But for what it's worth, I really did think that those unretouched photos were beautiful. And the truth is, well, I'd kill to look like you.
14、machination
It's amazing how little we can know about the people we love. your father, for instance. He's a man of many, many secrets. Dig a little deeper, and you may fine he's capable of practically anything.
15、Fashion TV
In a stunning new twist in today's major fashionistic drama, Natalie Whitman has decided to preempty any embarassment her missing photographs may have caused by allowing 'Mode' magazine to reveal the real her and publish the pictures completely unretouched. -----I just wanna put a spotlight on the hypocrisy伪善 of this business which seems intent on making any normal human being feel like an outcast. ----Does this audacious move by recently installed editor Daniel Mead mark the beginning of a newer, nicer 'Mode'? God help us all.
